Guangdong tops the Mainland in 3 indexes: enterprises’ innovating capability, large- and medium-sized enterprises’ investment in research and development, and industries’ innovating capacity on the international level. For many years, Guangdong has filed the most patent applications for scientific and technological inventions in the Mainland.

To date, most sectors of Guandong’s industry are leading China - some are even leading the world in terms of their advanced technical equipment. The majority of the manfacturing sectors have employed modern technology characteristics of automation and assembly line.

The leading innovative enterprises in the Mainland are in Guangdong. Almost 70% of the R&D institutions in Guangdong are established by enterprises. and over 70% technical personnel are concentrated in enterprises, especially in Shenzhen where over 90% technical personnel work in enterprises. More than 70% funds for scientific research are raised from enterprises and more than 70% hi-tech products are developed independently thereby.
