A Promising Future in the
Greater Pearl River Delta (GPRD)
The signing value on the Guangdong-Hong
Kong Business Fair Exceeding USD$4.3 billion
Sponsored by the People's Government of
Guangdong Province, the 2004 Business Fair
for Guangdong- Hong Kong Economic, Technology
and Trade Cooperation was held in Hong Kong
in May. Led by Tang Bingquan, the Deputy
Governor of Guangdong Province, the Guangdong
delegation brought to Hong Kong 150 projects
including high-tech, infrastructure, agriculture
and logistics, etc. Conducted in a comprehensive
and pragmatic way, the promotion and exchange
greatly boosted the cooperation between
Guangdong and Hong Kong. Three specialized
promotion seminars were held focusing on
the Pearl River Delta (PRD), the east &
west wings of Guangdong and the mountainous
areas, and the industrial zones respectively.
Centering on the business opportunities
after the implementation of CEPA, this business
fair displayed a flourishing future of the
GPRD and the supplementary advantages resulting
from an expanded hinterland in the east
and west wings of Guangdong and the mountainous
areas. In addition to their investment in
the PRD, the Hong Kong enterprises are encouraged
to invest and establish factories in such
untapped areas as the mountainous areas
and the east & west wings of Guangdong
in an attempt to extend cooperation to a
vaster land.
The Business Fair concluded with the signature
of 378 projects and a total value of USD$4.37
billion in foreign investment, among which
the contractual value was USD$3.114 billion
and the agreement and investment intention
