Zeng Yinquan Led a Group to Survey West Guangdong


As an implementation of the ¡°Sixth Guangdong-Hong Kong Joint-Committee Conference for Cooperation¡±, Mr.Zeng Yinquan, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government led a group comprising over 100 businessmen from the Hong Kong industrial and commercial circles to conduct a survey in Zhanjiang and Yangjiang.

This survey was organized by the ¡°Expert Group on Expanding the Hong Kong and Guangdong Economic Cooperation Hinterland¡±, which is initiated by the Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operations, Guangdong Province and Hong Kong Trade Development Council. Mr. Liang Yaowen, Director of the Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operations hosted the Zhanjiang-Hong Kong Business Fair for Economic and Trade Cooperation and Ms. Zhao Yufang, the Vice Director, hosted the Yangjiang-Hong Kong Business Fair for Economic and Trade cooperation.

Through the survey, Mr. Zeng and notables from Hong Kong industrial and commercial circles went deep into the economic situation, investment environment and business opportunities of these two cities. They also probed the issue of strengthening cooperation with the local industrial and commercial circles in an extensive way.

Favorable results had been achieved on the 50 key projects promoted by Zhanjiang and the 52 key projects promoted by Yangjiang. During the survey, a total of 42 investment intentions, contracts and agreements were signed between Zhanjiang and Hong Kong with a gross value of USD$282 million, while in Yangjiang the figure was 5 with a gross value of USD$159 million..

60% of the Hong Kong businessmen participating in this survey are from the service sectors, including logistics, banking, financial service, infrastructure & real estate and tourism, etc.; the others are manufacturers of jewelry, food products, industrial half-products, household electrical appliances and toys.

15 expert groups were set up on the Guangdong- Hong Kong Joint Committee Conference, among which was the ¡°Expert Group on Expanding the Hong Kong-Guangdong Economic Cooperation Hinterland¡±, an organization jointly initiated by the Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operations and the Hong Kong Trade Department Council. On the conference, both sides agreed on a new policy of ¡®Attracting Hong Kong capital to invest in the east & west wings of Guangdong and the mountainous areas, expanding the Hong Kong-Guangdong Economic Cooperation Hinterland.¡±. The survey is an implementation of this commitment.
