The Greater Pearl River Delta (HK-Guangdong)
On-line Investment Seminar 2004, jointly
organised by the Department of Foreign Trade
and Economic Co-operation of Guangdong Province
(GD DOFTEC) and Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK)
of the Hong Kong Special Administrative
Region Government (HKSARG), was held on
29 June 2004. The seminar, which received
enthusiastic response from domestic and
foreign investors, was highly effective
in promoting the overall investment environment
of the Greater Pearl River Delta (Greater
PRD). It has created a new form of co-operation
for Guangdong and Hong Kong to join hands
in providing investment services, thus fulfilling
the work objectives agreed at the Hong Kong/Guangdong
Co-operation Joint Conference.
Through conducting simultaneous interchanges
in both Chinese (simplified and traditional)
and English on the Greater PRD website (www.theGPRD.com),
the seminar has provided a wealth of investment
information on the Greater PRD. Two on-line
consultation activities on the themes of
"investment environment of the Greater
PRD" and "business opportunities
under CEPA" were launched with remarkable
success. A total of 100 investment projects
were brought forth for on-line exchanges.
According to preliminary statistics, from
9 am to 4 pm during the day, the seminar
website attracted investors from more than
20 countries and regions, with over 190,000
hits, and 660-odd questions being put up
by investors around the world, of which
390 were answered on-line.
Governments of both Guangdong and Hong
Kong attached great importance to this event.
Mr. Donald Tsang, Chief Secretary for Administration
of the HKSARG, delivered an on-line video
speech for the seminar. Mr. Liang Yaowen,
Director-General of GD DOFTEC, and Mr. Mike
Rowse, Director-General of InvestHK, also
gave on-line video speeches. Ms. Zhao Yufang,
Deputy Director-General of GD DOFTEC, was
the MC of the seminar.
